The ability to analyze and evaluate existing literature assists in the writing process. The literature curriculum is designed to create a strong foundation for students planning on transferring to a four-year program or for those interested in learning more about a specific genre. The ability to write effectively empowers as the reflection it requires aids in understanding the nature of who we are. It provides students with skills and opportunities to write about their experiences, their communities, and the world around them. Students learn to become informed participants in democratic activities; and as citizens of the world and the workplace, they are able to make and evaluate key decisions based on sound arguments. It is only through analysis that students can effectively write about countering viewpoints and participate in ethical decision making.
