Peru Trips: International Travel

By Peg Stapleton

KCC international travel class went to Peru with Social Science Professor Peg Stapleton on December 28, 2011 through January 7, 2012. Our group joined 13 others from Napa California and a young woman from Hendricks College in Arkansas to see some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. After a day in Lima, we flew to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca where we celebrated the new year in grand fashion in the central square, explored Indian markets, fair trade coffee and chocolate shops, the remains of the Incan Empire and so much more. Of course, the highlight of the trip was the two day journey to Machu Picchu following the trail of Hiram Bingham through the Andes Mountains. No one can fully prepare for the magnificence of the scenery or the astounding engineering of this wonder of the world. We spent our final days in Amazonia on the Madre de Dios tributary of the Amazon River. By the end of our journey, we had traveled by plane, tour bus, train, river boat and car, made many new friends and acquaintances and returned with memories to last a lifetime.
